U18 AA - A REP TRYOUT INFORMATION PAGE

U18 Tryout Update

Thank you for your patience as we work through the U18 tryout process. This is a very busy time of year, and we had an influx of player movement over the weekend that was not previously forecasted. This has added some complexity to the process as we work toward finalizing our U18 competitive teams.

For Tuesday’s intersquad sessions, players will be divided into three teams: A, B and C. The two hours of available ice will be used as follows:

Game 1: A (wear Red) vs. B (wear Blue)
Game 2: B (wear Blue) vs. C (wear Red)
Game 3: A (wear Blue) vs. C (wear Red)

Each game will be approximately 30 minutes, meaning every player will participate in two games and receive approximately 60 minutes of game time.

All players should arrive for the start of the first game, regardless of which game they are scheduled to play in.

Important: The letters A, B and C are being used only to identify the three teams for scheduling purposes. They are not rankings and do not indicate that a player is currently being considered an “A,” “B,” or “C” level player.

The teams have been created by distributing players based on the level they played last season. Players within those previous levels were then distributed alphabetically. The purpose of this method is simply to create balanced teams for this stage of the evaluation process.

A player’s assigned team should not be interpreted as an indication of their current ranking or projected team placement.

Following Tuesday’s intersquad games, evaluators will review the players and the remaining group will be reorganized into two groups for Thursday’s intersquad games.

Thank you again for your patience and understanding as we work through the additional player movement and complete the U18 team selection process.

REMINDERS

No parents are permitted to enter the rinks during tryouts/evaluations. Please have your player arrive at least 30 minutes before their scheduled ice time and check in at the front desk in the lobby between Scotia 1 and Scotia 2.

Players must bring both tryout jerseys to every session. For the first session, defence will wear BLUE and forwards will wear RED, but please bring both jerseys in case changes are required.

Coaches and dressing room monitors will be available to assist players with skates or equipment and make sure everyone is fully prepared before going on the ice.

Helmet Stickers & Outside Program Apparel:
Any helmet stickers identifying spring teams, elite programs, AAA leagues, hockey schools, or other outside hockey programs must be removed or completely covered with tape for the duration of tryouts. The same applies to identifying socks from outside hockey programs. Players should wear Wings socks or plain-coloured socks without outside program logos.

Please check your player’s equipment before leaving home. Make sure:

  • All required equipment is in the hockey bag
  • Helmet screws and straps are secure
  • Skates are sharpened and ready
  • Skate laces are in good condition and not close to breaking
  • Sticks are taped and ready for use

Every year we see players scrambling at the rink to replace broken or worn skate laces, fix helmet issues, or find missing equipment. Taking a few minutes to check everything at home will help make sure your player can arrive, get dressed and focus on their tryout.

Thank you for helping us keep the tryout process organized and allowing the players to focus on their time on the ice.
