Important Changes regarding CRC's

CRIMINAL RECORDS CHECKS/VULNERABLE SECTOR CHECKS 2022-23 SEASON

Returning Coaches, Assistant Coaches and Managers

If you are planning on returning as a coach, assistant coach or manager in the 2022-23 season and you last completed a Criminal Records Check/Vulnerable Sector Check (CRC/VSC) for the 2019-20 season or earlier, it is time to update your CRC/VSC.  Please check your HCR profile under the Qualifications or History tab to check the date of your CRC/VSC.

THERE WILL NOT BE A CRIMINAL RECORDS CHECK/VULNERABLE SECTOR CHECK NIGHT FOR THE 2022-23 SEASON

Options for CRC/VSC

For the 2022-23 Season, you have 2 options for completing the CRC/VSC:

1) Backcheck through the Halifax Regional Police Please select the Vulnerable Sector Check option ONLY.  You will not be reimbursed if you select the wrong option.   You must complete all steps required - including entering the code received from the Halifax Regional Police to ensure that your Backcheck letter is fully completed.  Avoid delays or rejection of your CRC/VSC by following all the instructions.  If you typically require fingerprints to complete your CRC/VSC or if you need to declare a previous conviction, please do not use this option.  Once you have completed your CRC/VSC, please email a copy to riskmanagement@chbawings.org by December 1.

2) Complete the CRC/VSC through the RCMP's Cole Harbour Detachment  Please print the letter from the Risk Manager CRC and VSC Volunteer Letter 2022-2023   (https://chbawings.org/uploads/coleharbourmha/menu_documents/8368.pdf) - to have the check completed. Once you have completed your CRC/VSC, please email a copy to riskmanagement@chbawings.org by December 1.   Please use this option if more convenient for you or if you typically require fingerprints to complete your CRC/VSC or if you need to declare a previous conviction.

Costs

Volunteers are responsible for the up-front costs and rostered team staff can be reimbursed from their team budget; rostered staff on teams without a budget (U7) can submit their receipt to the CHBAMHA Treasurer for reimbursement.

New coaches, assistant coaches and managers

If you plan on volunteering for a team but have not volunteered in Cole Harbour before, please wait until you have been rostered with a team to begin the certifications process (CRC/VSC and other qualifications).

Team Treasurers

Team Treasurers are not required to have a CRC/VSC and will not be reimbursed for a CRC/VSC.

Early renewal of CRC/VSC

If you have a valid CRC/VSC from the 2020-21 season or later, you will not be reimbursed if you renew your CRC/VSC before the expiry.

Child Abuse Registry (CAR)

The CAR is no longer required or accepted by Hockey Nova Scotia - only the Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Check is accepted by Hockey Nova Scotia.
