Coach Certifications
Important Note: Any team staff that does not have their required course certification completed by December 1 will be automatically suspended by Hockey Nova Scotia. This means that you cannot be on the ice or fulfill your duties until all course certifications are completed. You are also required to complete your CRC/VSC as well.


- Intro Coach Program
- HU Safety Program (valid for 3 years) – At least 1 coach must have this completed.
- Criminal Records Check with vulnerable sector check
- HU Planning a Safe Return to Hockey Course
- Respect in Sport Activity Leader Program
- NCCP Development Level 1 (named Coach Development 1 on HCR)
- HU Safety Program (valid for 3 years) – *All bench staff must have a valid safety certification at all times. (* for B rep teams at least 1 bench staff must have a valid safety certification)
- Criminal Records Check which must include the vulnerable sector check - RCMP
- HU Planning a Safe Return to Hockey Course
- Respect in Sport Activity Leader Program
To register for any of these courses, you must first be rostered with a Cole Harbour team.
- Estimated time to complete - 3 Hours.
- This program consists of videos and engagement through answering questions at the end of sections.
- You may complete this program at your own pace and convenience.
- This program is for Coaches and other Hockey Leaders. This program is not for Hockey Parents
- There is a cost for this course. For rep teams you will provide a receipt to the team for reimbursement.
- U5 & U7 Levels only, reimbursement will be provided by our treasurer. Please submit the receipt with an email for reimbursement.

You will be directed to Hockey University (HU) which is Hockey Canada's Clinic database. Make sure when looking for the clinics below you select Hockey Nova Scotia in the drop down menu (as seen below). Spaces are limited in the courses, and if you do not complete your courses or miss the courses you will be removed from the coaching staff of your team.

Intro Coach Program
- This course has two components.
- The first is completed online (videos) at your own pace (ET - 3 Hours total).
- Once completed, it will allow you to register for a one-day clinic or online virtual class (through Zoom). CHBA is invoiced directly. For no shows the team will be billed for this charge.
- Complete this course ASAP, as spots will fill up fast for the 2nd component.
- Certification does not expire.
NCCP Development 1 (named Coach Development 1 on HCR)
- This is a two-day clinic.
- You must register on-line.
- Billing is direct to CHBA and no-show charges will be billed back to the team.
- This course does not expire.
HU Safety Program:
- Register on-line.
- Estimated time to complete - 3 Hours.
- This program consists of videos and engagement through answering questions at the end of sections.
- You may complete this program at your own pace and convenience.
- It has a three-season expiration date.
- In addition to completing this course, a volunteer can submit a valid first aid certificate to HNS which they will permit a five-year expiration date.
- This is billed directly to CHBA.
HU Planning a Safe Return to Hockey
- Hu Safe Return to Hockey is completed online.
- Estimated time to complete - 30-40 minutes.
- This program consists of videos and engagement through answering questions at the end of sections.
- You may complete this program at your own pace and convenience.
